National Archives UK: how well do you know your history?

Take our quiz to test your knowledge of Thatcher-era British politics

Whether it is the fall of sterling, debates over the UK’s relationship with Europe or rows about the conduct of the media, much of the content of the latest batch of official files to be released to the public feels strangely familiar.

But some topics – from the fallout of the Iranian revolution to concerns over nuclear weapons – feel far more of their time.

The government now is releasing papers to the National Archives in batches, rather than one single annual release. This means that rather than being related to one particular year, the files contain smatterings from the early to late 1980s.

How much do you remember of the Thatcher era? Take our quiz to find out.
