As 2016 unfolded, a flood of fake news sought to challenge the influence of traditional media. Often the fake news appeared to be outlandish doggerel, laden with conspiracy theories, poor grammar and political invective. That did little to stem its influence though, notably in the US election. And often in 2016, the “real” news often seemed to challenge probability.
