How does this election work? The House of Representatives is the lower chamber of the US Congress. Members are elected from districts within each state. The number of districts in a state is determined by its population in the last census, with the smallest states having only one ‘at large’ district. All 435 districts are contested every two years. Most states use a first-past-the-post system to elect representatives, but some require an outright majority through run-off elections or ranked-choice voting.

“Time called” is time the result was called by the Associated Press in Eastern Standard Time.
Where all remaining candidates for a congressional seat are members of the same political party, that party is shown to have won the seat once polls are closed but before the identity of the winning candidate is known.
Congressional elections in Georgia and Louisiana may require a run-off election if no candidate wins more than 50% of the vote. All elections in Alaska and Maine determine a majority winner with instant run-offs using the ‘ranked-choice’ voting method.
The results of special elections to fill vacant seats for the remaining term of the current Congress are not shown.
The calculation of the final round vote shares for the House of Representatives election in Maine District 2 was corrected on November 18, 2024.
